Overview

During EuroPCR 2015 (FR), Radcliffe Cardiology, in association with the Interventional Cardiology Review journal, filmed a roundtable discussion focusing on the topical area of  'Coronary Physiology'.

The discussion was moderated by Editor-in-Chief, Simon Kennon (London, UK). He was joined by expert group of physicians including Prof. Stephan Achenbach(Erlangen, DE), Drs Sergio Bravo Baptista (Amadora, PT), Matthias Gotberg (Lund, SE), Divaka Perera (London, UK), Andrew Sharp (Exeter, UK) and Prof. Eric Van Belle (Lille, FR).

The meeting comprised of three panel discussions on a range of topical issues related to all aspects of coronary physiology from the clinical trial and registry data, current performance and utilisation, through to emerging technological advances and future use of physiological assessment.

Simon Kennon

Simon Kennon

Consultant Cardiologist

Dr Simon Kennon qualified from Manchester Medical School in 1992. He completed general medical training in and around London (Royal Free Hospital, Southend General Hospital, Newham General Hospital and the London Chest Hospital) before training in General and Interventional Cardiology at St Bartholomew’s, and the London Chest Hospitals. His training continued with a fellowship in interventional cardiology at St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.
He was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist in 2005. His NHS work is divided between the London Chest Hospital (Barts Health NHS Trust) and Barnet & Chase Farms Hospital NHS Trust.

His private practice is based at the King’s Oak Hospital, the Cavell Hospital and the London Independent Hospital.

Divaka Perera

Divaka Perera

Divaka Perera is a Professor of Interventional Cardiology in the School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Sciences and an Honorary Cardiologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. He graduated in medicine from Cambridge University, undertook cardiology specialist training in London and Sussex and received a Clinical Senior Lectureship Award from the Higher Education Funding Council for England in 2008. In 2013, he received the BCS Michael Davies Early Career Award for contribution to cardiovascular science. 

He runs a translational research programme into the mechanisms and consequences of reduced blood supply to the heart muscle in chronic coronary artery disease, acute myocardial infarction and valve disease. He is also involved in designing and performing multicentre clinical trials to evaluate novel treatments for patients with ischaemic heart disease. Andrew SP Sharp

Andrew SP Sharp

Consultant Cardiologist

Prof Andrew Sharp qualified from Edinburgh Medical School in 1998. He conducted his senior clinical training at Imperial College Hospitals and San Raffaele Hospital, Milan, before being appointed in 2011 as a Consultant Cardiologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and University of Exeter. Professor Sharp was awarded an MD postgraduate research degree for his work on the hypertensive heart whilst at Imperial College and now leads a growing research programme at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in the fields of hypertension, renal denervation, ischaemic heart disease, intra-coronary imaging, coronary physiology, pulmonary embolus and aortic valve disease.
